Posted: Fri Nov 20, 1998 at 9:41 PM ET The Melbourne Tigers extended their winning streak to 7 tonight with a 15 point win over the struggling Crocs. The final score was not a true indication of the match, Townsville right with the Tigers through 3 and a half quarters. The Crocs actually went on an 11-2 run to open the match, before a 15-4 run to the Tigers brought them back down to earth. The Tigers held their slender lead throughout the first quarter and lead 27-22 at the first break. Sam Mackinnon got off for nine in the first and Gaze had 8. The second quarter was very close, the Tigers slightly widening their gap to go into half time leading 53-41. Sam Mackinnon and Rob Rose were both good for Townsville but Marcus Timmons and Andrew Gaze were on fire. The third quarter was a very good one for Townsville, despite Andrew Gaze hitting three straight treys to open for Melbourne. But the Crocs put up 30 points in the third, thanks largely to Rob Rose. Simon Kerle and Sam Mackinnon also got into the act and Townsville got it to within 3. The Crocs continued to hang tough in the fourth, an unsportsmanlike foul from Andrew Gaze with 7:00 to go giving the Crocs 2 free throws and the ball down only 4 points. But they couldn't take advantage of the situation and the Tigers turned it into an 11-0 run. The last minute saw one of the highlights of the year, Mark Bradtke throwing the lob to Lanard Copeland only to have it go in for 3! The next play Marcus Timmons threw a lob to Copeland and he dunked it to makie it an 18 point game. Only a three on the buzzer from Simon Kerle made it a 102-87 Tigers victory. Marcus Timmons was outstanding with 23 points and 16 rebounds, Andrew gaze had 33. Rob Rose scored 23 points to lead Townsville.
