Titans Outlast Kings in Sydney

Posted: Sat Oct 31, 1998 at 9:43 PM ET

The Victorian Titans have finaly found some form, beating the Sydney Kings 101-92 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre tonight. The Titans had suffered from poor outside shooting in their previous outings but tonight they found their range from the outside. Frank Drmic and Tony Ronaldson the main weapons for Victoria. The Kings had also suffered from poor form and they looked for their stars to score early, Neilson and Trahair netting 7 and 6 in the first quarter respectively. But the Titans still lead by 8 thanks to big efforts inside from Brett Wheeler and Frank Drmic. The second quarter was much the same as they first, Victoria keeping their noses in front courtesy of 3 long bombs from co captain Tony Ronaldson. Matt Nielson was the best for Sydney in the second with 6 points.

The third quarter saw Frank Drmic assert himself offensively, scoring 10 points and crashing the boards. But the Kings made a mini run late in the quarter and at three quarter time they had managed to cut the lead to just 3 points. Things started to heat up in the fourth with some technical and unsportsmanlike fouls being called on both teams. The Kings also continued their run and got as close as one points with 4 and a half minutes to play. But Drmic was on song from the outside and Jason Smith, Darryl Mcdonald and Mike Kelly turned up the defensive pressure and the Kings were effectively out of the game. The Titans now move to 2-1 and the Kings continue their slide down the ladder, moving to 1-3 after the opening month of the season.
